Ganeshwara

My rendition of the Hindu Diety Ganeshwara. This was an automatic drawing where i moved the pencil around the page until images started to emerge. It became an elephant and since Ganeshwara is one of my favorite dieties in the Hindu religion I decided to continue. The symbols surrounding Ganeshwara are representative of personal obstacles that we must all overcome on our spiritual path in order to fulfill our respective destinies.

The Inner Temple

A man who has emerged from his inner journey victorious because he is holding his heart. His heart and mind are now centered after a difficult journey. He may now proceed with the rest of his journey. This is automatic drawing that was created spontaneously to allow for the flow of the spirit to take over my hand. The background is his inner temple and the various images are representative of his struggles. The woman in suvasana is also a part of his inner journey and the purpose that relationships serve on our spiritual journey.

Tourbillion

Tourbillion usually refers to the inner mechanics of a watch but it can also refer to anything with a spiral movement. The stoic woman in the center is presented as a bust and encased in a concrete relief sculpture. She is surrounded by figures that are able to move around and helping to rotate the spiral. Whether she is confined by external circumstances or by her own decisions, help is on the way and the motion will propel her out of her Stasis.

Da'at

This image represents Da'at or It started as an automatic drawing that started with a portrait that grew horns. The rest emerged with each stroke, as finally a Kabbalistic tree of life in a boat in the background. Da'at is an exit and entrance point on the dark side of the tree of life known as the Qliphoth. The seeker is looking over to the tree and his view is obscured by the horned creature who is also symbolically holding him up in the reality he has found himself in. The seven lampstands on the upper part of image represent the seven chakras which when activated provide the seeker a way out of his current predicament.

High Five

Myth

In this piece I left out alot of empty space to utilizing positive/negative areas to create a sense of mystery and mysticism. The strong background line as well as the receding lines of the cube and the shadow are the only indications of perspective and definitive light source.
There are four characters only partially drawn allowing the viewers mind to fill in the scenario. It is an interplay or conversation between the horned character, the sphinx, and an arm. The three are visibly engaged and symbolically connected to the creature at the top but one is on the outside and the other goes between both realities symbolized by their positioning. They are trying to join hands but are seperated by an invisible barrier. The hand is reaching up from a table which representing physical reality and the thread goes to the birth canal of the androgynous creature. The hand is being absorbed into the material and turning into an object. It desperately wants to rejoin its source and to be saved from its predicament but this still stands beyond its grasp.

The Triumphant Entry

There are multiple interpretions of this piece and I want to encourage the observer to form their own conclusions and to create their own meanings. It may appear as if the woman is being drawn by a carriage that is lead by a dancing figure who is doing the splits above a head or fruit containing swirling figures. There is a tiny dancer above her head that doubles as a bell. This is a psychological portrait of the unconscious drawn automatically. The Cart is grounded in the "real" world as symbolized by the cube. There are no wheels on this cart so she is not going anywhere but is not upset in the slightest. The head like image can also reference a piece of fruit that is growning from a vine. We are organic creatues "plucked from the vine" so to speak but we are not forced to stay in the "box". It is paradoxically always there and we can't get completly away from it either. As we go forward we go nowhere at the same time.

Golden sun

This is an automatic drawing that started with a portrait that flowed into other images that symbolize aspects of the portrait. His mouth has been replaced with covering, so he can't speak as he is surrounded by aspects of his life that are unfolding around him rising, falling, haunting, and reminding him of his life and alluding to the journey ahead of him. The golden sun provides the light and knowledge he will use on the journey ahead.

The Sacred Birth

This drawing is an automatic drawing created with no prexisting image or idea in mind. The drawing that emerged, to me is largely symbolic and the characters and background are representations of energies meant to evoke thoughts and emotions. I originally drew the woman who became the mother of the child in the basket, and the rest emerged from there. It alludes to the story of moses, but is not meant literally to represent that story specifically. The woman is beneath a cliff or perhaps inside a cave, so she is safe and the child is protected. This can also hint at the womb or the place where mother and child are most connected. It is seperated from the rest of the scene because it is a very sacred private moment between mother and child. She is blessing the child and doing rites over him before she has to give him up to his destiny. The woman behind her is outside providing support and blessing. She is a perhaps a protective nature spirit, staring off into space in awe of the magnitude of what she is experiencing. Above the woman is a pyrmaid which can symbolize a higher dimension observing the birth and giving protection. It also visually references a peacock which also is thought to give blessings. Located over her is a version of the centaur/sphinx as a spiritual guide to help him along in his journey and to light his path.
